Police Attempt to Locate Owner of War MedalsWarning - this news article expired on 2013-12-06. Information may no longer be accurate or applicable 13-34200

Just prior to Remembrance Day Kingston Police is working hard to return some military medals to their rightful owner.

Detectives from the General Crime Unit recently came into possession of a row of military decorations that are believed to be stolen, and at the very least, lost. A search of police local records has yet to find a past occurrence that the medals can be linked to.

Police are revealing three of these decorations to the public in the hopes someone will recognize them and contact the investigating officer. They are:

1. 1939-1945 Star

2. France and Germany Star

3. Defence medal

There are additional medals that are not being shown so that any claims of ownership can be verified through intimate knowledge of the remaining number and type.

Anyone with information is please asked to contact Detective James Veltman at 613-549-4660 ext 6300 or via email at jveltman@kpf.ca.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or on the website at www.tipsubmit.com. Tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
