Festive RIDE Program to Operate Over the Holiday Season
The Kingston Police are gearing-up for another season of Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere).
At the beginning of December and carrying throughout the rest of the month a team of officers will be continuously conducting traditional RIDE checkpoints at various locations throughout the city, and at different times, in an effort to curb drinking and driving during the holiday season.
Additionally, non-traditional mobile RIDE initiatives will be performed by the team, who will attend and position themselves near drinking establishments, areas known to have high alcohol
Kingston Police First in Ontario to use Canine-Assisted Intervention Dog
Kingston Police is pleased to announce the newest member to its ranks. Vernon (“Vern”) is the first accredited Canine-Assisted Intervention (CAI) dog to be used by a police service in Ontario. He is a two-year-old yellow lab/golden retriever mix and has been generously donated by National Service Dogs (NSD), located out of Cambridge, Ontario.
NSD is accredited through Assistance Dogs International, which adheres to the highest calibre of training standards available. NSD bred and trained Vern to specifically be a Canine-Assisted Intervention dog.
